At around 30, our human growth hormone (HGH) production starts declining for both men and women. Sermorelin therapy intends to replace this lost human growth hormone with sermorelin acetate.

Sermorelin has several benefits; read on to find out more about sermorelin peptide therapy, what it’s used for, and why.

Human growth hormone (HGH) is a peptide hormone that’s crucial in our growth and development. Although HGH plays its most significant role during childhood and adolescence, it is integral to maintaining healthy tissue and organs throughout our lives. HGH is produced in the pituitary gland, commonly referred to as the master gland. However, as we age, the pituitary gland becomes less effective at producing and distributing HGH.

When HGH functions correctly, it works in tandem with growth hormone-releasing hormone (HGRH), allowing HGH to move from the pituitary gland and into the bloodstream.

After puberty, growth hormone levels begin to decline. Some studies suggest a 14% decline per decade, but some suggest it could be as much as a 50% decline every seven years for men. This decline in HGH is associated with several symptoms such as:

  • Low energy
  • Reduced libido
  • Decreased muscle mass
  • Increased body fat
  • Slower metabolism

Sermorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) secretagogue, which stimulates the natural release of HGH from your pituitary gland.

How Is Sermorelin Administered?

Sermorelin is self-administered by injection once a day before going to bed. This helps to mimic the night-time production and release of HGH.

4 Benefits of Sermorelin Therapy

There are many health benefits to boosting and restoring your human growth hormone levels. For example, sermorelin peptide therapy can treat many of the symptoms listed above. While results may vary from patient to patient, clinical studies have shown that sermorelin therapy can have a range of benefits, such as:

  • Maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Restoring a regular sleep cycle
  • Recovering from physical injury or surgery
  • Improving stamina and endurance

Depending on the health issue, some benefits will be seen more quickly than others. Typically, energy levels and libido can improve within a few weeks. However, it may take up to 3-6 months before you experience the full effects, including decreased fat and increased muscle mass.

4 Common Side Effects of Sermorelin Therapy

As with any medical treatment, side effects will impact some people and can vary between patients. Generally, sermorelin therapy is well tolerated but speak with your doctor or healthcare provider about any allergies or current medication. As sermorelin is injected, the most common side effects will be at the injection site, including:

  • Irritation or sensitivity
  • Swelling or redness
  • Pain or tenderness
  • Itching

Many patients find these reactions are short-lived and will improve as your technique of self-administering the injections improves.

In addition, there may be some more severe side effects that happen less frequently, such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Difficult swallowing
  • Nausea or sickness
  • Headache
  • Rashes or flushing (redness in the face and neck)
  • Changes in taste
  • Sleepiness or fatigue
  • Difficulty staying still

If you experience any side effects, speak to your doctor or healthcare provider.

In addition, sermorelin therapy isn’t suitable for cancer patients or those taking certain medications, such as prednisone.

Is Sermorelin Better Than HGH?

Taking sermorelin is a more attractive option than taking HGH for several reasons. Primarily, sermorelin is manufactured in the US and approved by the FDA. In contrast, HGH isn’t FDA-approved for off-label usage.

In addition, an advantage of sermorelin is that it doesn’t suppress your natural HGH production like artificial HGH can. There are also fewer side effects and a reduced risk of overdose. HGH therapy can produce higher and longer-lasting levels of HGH; however, this is what can lead to your natural HGH production becoming suppressed.

Sermorelin therapy can also reduce the risk of joint disorders and the development of medical conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome. This is because, unlike HGH therapy, sermorelin doesn’t lead to excessive levels of HGH.

Does Sermorelin Burn Fat?

Sermorelin therapy is considered highly effective at helping patients lose weight due to HGH stimulating the production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which can enhance your metabolism. A higher metabolism level can make it easier to lose weight when combined with a calorie deficit and regular exercise.
